Directions to start

Route

This stage follows the OLD trail all the way on the summer route until Stoke St Gregory Church where we will now follow the roads back to Stathe. Unfortunately most of the route we follow no longer carries any Parrett Trail signs. This route is shown on current OS Maps (50,000) See attached.

·        From the start climb the Mump and descend to the stile onto the main road (TAKE CARE), turn left (ignoring the new Trail route prior to the bridge) cross bridge and turn left on road at cross roads. Just before next bridge turn right onto track. This is now waymarked as the East Deane Way white arrows on black background until the checkpoint. Follow banks of the Tone until road. Turn left over bridge then right at T junction. Take care at Railway level crossing at 1.5 miles.

·        Ensure you take right turn down a track just before Curload Hill left into field beyond farm and then steep climb Windmill Hill.

·        At treatment works take right turn down to Stile and continue in next field to a track (nature reserve opposite) turn left on track and to the checkpoint.

·        We have a checkpoint where you will be registered at the Willow and Wetlands centre, (Grid Ref 33752621) 15 minutes penalty for no shows.

·        From the centre cross the road and head on footpath into field keeping hedge on your right (sunken path). Cross stile into next field and turn left, keep to hedge and eventually you will see a bridge in far hedge, cross this and turn right and follow hedge in next two field and you will come out into a road. (Most fields in this section were full of Maize so was difficult in early September but should be clear by race day)

·        Turn left on road and then bear right and right again in village. We will have another Marshal checking you take the correct route at this point to ensure not cheating !! Continue past the Church and follow the road through Woodhill and then right and right to Stathe.

·        A T junction in Stathe go straight across and over bridge and then turn right and follow the Trail to Oath Bridge for finish.
